3M has signed a multi-year agreement with Roush Fenway Racing to become the primary sponsor of the No. 16 Ford. 3M will be the primary sponsor for driver Greg Biffle for 23 Sprint Cup races in 2008. Terms were not disclosed. In 2007 3M sponsored Biffle (19 races) and Todd Kluever (14 races) in the Busch Series, and seven races with Biffle in the Nextel Cup Series. In 2006 3M became the primary sponsor of the No. 06 Ford driven by Kluever in the Busch Series. In 2005, Biffle drove the No. 16 3M Post-it Ford in nine Nextel Cup races, winning at California and Texas on his way to finishing second in the Nextel Cup Championship. Since 1995 3M has been a Contingency Decal sponsor of NASCAR in the Nextel Cup, Busch Series and the Whelen All-America Weekly Racing Series and has many products that have been designated Officially Licensed Products of NASCAR.
Today, Roush Racing will announce it has secured a multi-team sponsor for Greg Biffle and teammates Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray and Carl Edwards. Rumors floated around the Pocono garage that Biffle was testing his marketability with other teams. With Dale Earnhardt Jr. set to join Hendrick Motorsports next season, Biffle - along with Kyle Busch and several others - is a candidate to fill the void at DEI. All of this, Biffle says, may have dulled his focus.
Contract negotiations between Greg Biffle and Roush Fenway Racing have stalled, Biffle said Friday at Pocono Raceway. Biffle said the decision to break off talks was his and is based largely on improving the performance of a No. 16 team that has been up-and-down of late and in a state of transition following the firing of crew chief Pat Tryson two weeks ago and subsequent hiring of crew chief Greg Irwin. Biffle expects negotiations to resume in about a month.
Pat Tryson, crew chief for Greg Biffle, has left Roush Fenway Racing, the team announced Wednesday. Team engineering manager Chris Andrews, a former crew chief, will take Tryson’s place in this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. After this weekend, Greg Erwin will become the crew chief.
